MTO Makes The Cut

Mar 07, 2013

As you may know, our Made to Order (MTO) Series is a small collection of our largest, boldest colored optical crystal awards, which typically require a 4-6 week lead time due to their custom nature. Because of all of your fantastic feedback at this year's ARA show, CIP went back to the drawing board to modify a couple of our MTO pieces to add to next year's regularly stocked inventory. Curious to see these new jewels? Stay tuned to find out which 2 pieces make the cut

How to differentiate high quality crystal vs. not so high quality crystal

As corporations and consumers alike began spending less, they also began looking for lower prices and less expensive alternatives to crystal awards. Their focus became so cost-driven, that the quality has begun to take a backseat.

As CIP continues to get to know our customers, and attends Award and Recognition Industry trade shows, we have begun to notice a trend - The quality of crystal has begun to take a backseat to cost. After the economic downturn, customers and corporations alike began spending less, looking for the most cost-effective award solutions they could find. Thus, we've seen a rise in low quality crystal and glass pieces in the market. But crystal awards are supposed to be special. They are how we recognize and reward people for marvelous accomplishments. Quality is one factor that shouldn't be compromised - in showing appreciation, or in crystal. CIP wants to remind ourselves why we are in this industry by offering a few simple tips  on how to spot perfect crystal that will wow recipients every time.

Crystal Clear

The #1 factor in selecting quality crystal is the overall clarity of the piece. Quality crystal is  completely transparent, with no streaking, fogging or blurriness. Beware of crystals that are yellowed or tinted. Low quality crystals can become discolored after prolonged exposure to fluorescent light. Tip: Hold the piece against a white background to check for any imperfections.

Cutting Edge

When selecting a crystal award, always check the edges of the piece. Quality crystals have clean, sharp edges and corners. Say no to edges that are dull and rough, as they are signs of poorly made crystal. Tip: Run your fingers along to edges and corners to check for sharpness and snags.

Size Matters

All too often we hear our customers say that their clientele could care less about the thickness of the crystal. We say they should care more! After all, they are choosing an award that will recognize and honor the recipients for their achievements. Thickness makes a big difference in the general appearance of an award, and, yes, recipients do take note. In fact, we have even had end users specifically request the CIP brand because of their satisfaction with the thickness and solidity of our pieces. Larger, heavier awards create a sense of grandeur and elegance that simply cannot be replicated by thinner, lighter awards. Cutting costs shouldn't mean cutting quality. Tip: Hold the award in your hands. What feelings come to mind?

Remember, we are in the business of making people feel loved, rewarded, recognized and most of all, special.  CIP feels that it is our duty to provide top quality crystal that helps you create the special experience you envision.
